  • things that amazes me

here's an excerpt that my student wrote for class:

I go out to the porch

    And breathe in

    The familiar smell of honeysuckle

I slide into my weathered shoes

And walk out to the beach

The sea breeze ruffles my hair

The cold water swirls around my toes

I slowly sit down on the sand

    And look at the colours

    Weaving together in the sky

    And the sun

    Sinking into the horizon

    I pick up a shell

    And with my thumb

    I stroke the smooth surface

The shell itself is long dead

    But memories stay

    Beauty remains

    I lay back

And feel the sky high above me

    And the world

    Ever so wide

    So vast

There is more to see than can ever be seen

There is more to find than can ever be found

More to do than can ever be done

    How magical that it keeps

    Everything around

    Endlessly and endlessly

It amazes me how 13 year-olds can create such beauty. But even more when they look out of their windows, it's nothing other than smog, how do they find the grandeur and the stimulation to write? If this represents the girls' dream, can't we do more, to make it true for her?

  • Wow - your student is truly a brilliant writer! I'm very impressed that she is 13. Not only does she have a vivid imagination, but she also captures it so wonderfully with her words!
